ORWA Partners with Senator Mullin’s Office, ODEQ, OWRB, and Osage County to Secure Emergency Funding for Waxoma Lake Dam Repairs in Barnsdall
Barnsdall, OK — In a collaborative effort between the Oklahoma Rural Water Association (ORWA), U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin’s office, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ), the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB), and Osage County District #1, emergency funding has been successfully secured to address critical repairs on the damaged Waxoma Lake Dam in Barnsdall, Oklahoma.
The project, aimed at preventing further damage and reducing the risk of flooding — and to also prevent the loss of the town’s water supply — received funding through the Rural Infrastructure Grant (RIG) Program. Designed to provide swift financial support to rural communities with populations of 10,000 or less, the RIG Program is funded by the Oklahoma Legislature and ODEQ and administered by ORWA.
“The RIG Program was created to ensure that rural Oklahoma has access to immediate resources for vital infrastructure and emergency response projects,” said ORWA CEO Jimmy Seago. “We’re very appreciative of the RIG Grant Committee’s efforts to expedite this process and provide the necessary funding for the resources needed to complete this emergency repair.”
This coordinated response showcases the power of partnership in addressing urgent infrastructure needs and reinforces the commitment to protecting Oklahoma’s rural communities.
