WATER OPERATOR

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position is primarily for a water utility operator, and on occasion may require assisting treatment facility staff and operations.  Operators play a crucial role in providing a safe and adequate water supply, and truly make a difference in society on a daily basis.  Clean and safe water is essential to everyday life and operators have the ability to regularly impact that need.  Water operators are responsible for inspecting, sampling, maintenance, and repair activities on facilities and equipment in the water distribution system.

DUTIES:

  • Operate heavy equipment, machinery, and specialized equipment used in the operation and maintenance of the water system.
  • Install, read, test and repair water meters, hydrant testing and maintenance of water distribution
  • Utilize and maintain Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system.
  • Maintain water pumping and storage
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance of vehicles and Assist with major equipment maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Perform on-call, night, weekend or after-hour duties as the need arises.
  • General mechanical, plumbing and electrical repair and
  • Reading and comprehending maps, diagrams, regulations and
  • Be familiar with District geography and street
  • Receive/respond/complete work orders related to service inquiries.

  • Perform other related duties as

 

RECOMMENDED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Work as part of a crew, or alone, whose primary responsibility is water system maintenance and
  • Maintain regular, predictable and punctual
  • Work a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and
  • Ability to work under adverse weather
  • Ability to read maps and drawings, keep storage/work areas clean, orderly, and in safe
  • Knowledge of safety regulations to work safely with equipment used in utility maintenance
  • Experience working with various types of equipment including pumps, generators, backhoes, excavators, service trucks, mowers, wrenches, saws, hammers, grinders, shovels, and drills.
  • Working knowledge of hand tools, ability to work on water lines to maintain a safe and clean water supply.

 

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent
  • Obtain Class D Water certification from the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Must possess a valid Oklahoma State Driver’s License with driving record free from serious or frequent violations.
