Water Operator Job Type: Full Time Shift: Day shift – On call Recruitment Period: Open Until Filled
This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.
Reporting to the District Manager of CTRWD, the responsibilities of the Water Operator include, but are not limited to, entry-level skilled labor of more than ordinary difficulty, which often involves the use of acquired skills. The Operator uses manual and power equipment to perform a variety of maintenance tasks and repairs of water and sewer systems. Other tasks include routine tests and meter-reading. Performs regular maintenance and emergency repairs on equipment as necessary. A Class D license in both water and wastewater is required for all Operators within one year of hire.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Any experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience in water district operations is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications: Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.

Skills: Following oral and written instructions. Using hand tools and repairing equipment. Recognizing operating problems and assessing the correct response. Computing basic mathematical equations. Effective interpersonal skills in communicating with co-workers and the public.
HOURS: A 40-hour work week. The weekly schedule will be set, however, the position will require weekend, on-call, after-hour, and/or holiday hours. The position is subject to overtime work and responds to job-related emergencies as required. The position is defined as essential staff and will be expected to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations during an emergency.
Essential Functions: Provides courteous, efficient, and friendly service to all citizens
- Performs repairs and maintenance on water storage, production, and distribution systems, sanitary sewer systems.
- Installs equipment and machinery; performs routine preventive maintenance of same
- Brings problems or issues to a supervisor for direction
- Operates heavy machinery including a mini excavator, backhoe, etc.
- Performs physically demanding work including lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing and working off ladders, working in confined spaces, digging, loading/unloading, and working outdoors in all types of weather
Collect samples from various locations and perform the required analysis.
Monitor and record pressure and flow reading throughout the districts system as required.
Monitor water towers and adjust as necessary.
Answer on-call phone.
Selected applicants will clean equipment and work area as needed to maintain a clean safe work environment.
Monitor SCADA system and respond to alarms/warnings.
Update operation logs, both handwritten and computer generated, several times per shift as needed.
Inspect equipment. Perform other related duties as required.
Software Skills
Knowledge of, or ability to learn, computer software including word processing, email programs, and spreadsheet and database applications consistent for this position.
Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail. Substantial amount of physical standing and walking. The ability to lift and carry heavy (50-75 lb.) materials occasionally. Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.
Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to extreme heat, cold, and other weather conditions. The candidate will need tolerance for loud noise and strong smell.
