JOB SUMMARY
Assists in the operation, maintenance and control of the Water and Wastewater system, including potable water system, wells, Water storage facilities, booster stations, wastewater treatment facilities, sludge disposal system, sewer lift stations and the lab to ensure safe, economical and efficient operation.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Oklahoma DEQ Water & Wastewater Lab Operator “C” within 6 months of hire.
Oklahoma DEQ Water Works Operator “D” and Wastewater Works Operator “D” licenses within 12 months of hire.
Valid drivers license with the ability to obtain a Class B CDL within 90 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of variable frequency drives, PLC’s, lab equipment. Extensive maintenance skills.
- Knowledge of general plumbing and electrical, and various styles of pumps.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in performing maintenance and repair work.
- Ability to perform the specialized semi‐skilled maintenance and repair.
- Ability to perform strenuous work, including heavy lifting.
- Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
Essential Job Function:
- Inspects the water system for proper operations and maintains records of the amount of water that is pumped.
- Records the amount of chemicals used.
- Checks meters, gauges, pumps, and control panels to verify correct operation of equipment and records information.
- Performs lab duties for water/wastewater facilities which include: Sampling for BOD’s, total solids, total suspended solids, Ph’s, ammonia, nitrates, chlorine residual, fluoride, fecal coliform, BACT’S, sludge levels, dissolved oxygen, bio‐monitoring and temperatures.
- Operates and maintains pumps, control panels, chlorinators, and chemical feed pumps. Inspects lift stations for proper operation of motors and pumps.
- Monitors and repairs plant equipment including cleaning and servicing aerators and performing annual inspections.
- Records daily flow of influent, effluent, waste and return sludge.
- Maintains well vault structures and water towers.
- Operates Bio‐Solids equipment on a daily basis.
- Records dissolved oxygen levels at various locations in the facilities.
- Sample Bio‐Solids for sludge disposal.
- Maintains and operates sludge thickening equipment.
- Obtains certified sludge disposal according Oklahoma DEQ specifications.
- Attends safety meetings and follows safety precautions according to OSHA standards.
- Runs quality control tests for lab certification.
- Maintains back‐up generators.
- Performs daily testing of influent and effluent as required and adjust process controls accordingly.
- Logs completed daily maintenance.
- Cleans and monitors headworks daily.
- Assists in reading of electrical and water meters and the maintenance of water meters.
- Attends training as necessary.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time; moderate and heavy lifting and carrying which includes the ability to lift up to 100 pounds; pulling, reaching, bending, climbing, and kneeling; use of fingers, hands, and legs required; must be able to distinguish colors; must be able to operate assigned tools, vehicles and equipment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor and outdoor environments; exposure to extreme weather conditions; exposure to vibrations, and noise, work on slippery or uneven surfaces; work with and around heavy machinery, in or near vehicle traffic, exposure to dust and fumes from motorized equipment; possible exposure to toxic chemicals.
