Salary: BASED ON ASSESSMENT OF SKILLS & LICENSING ($49,538.99 to $54,939.02) ($23.82-$26.41) PER HOUR)
A new hire is on probation for a full year, with evaluations on performance completed at six months on the job and at the end of the probation period. All training is on-the-job, paid time. Â The ability to earn higher pay is directly proportional to progressing through the levels of expertise, demonstrated proficiency, and years of experience in the profession.Â
This job classification has been designated as a safety-sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.
JOB SUMMARY
This is a non-exempt, mechanical and technical position located in the Public Works Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Operate motor vehicles.
- Operates and maintains SCADA systems, Variable Speed Drives, boosters, and water well pumps at various locations within the OKC metro area, in maintaining adequate water supply to the City’s water system.
- Keep daily records and various reports.
- Responds to trouble calls if required.
- Perform general maintenance on city vehicles.
- Perform preventative maintenance on well pumps and valves.
- Perform grounds maintenance on well sites.
- Perform water sampling for in-house and third-party testing.
- Perform pool fills for city residents.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Perform assigned duties in a safe manner.
- Learn well site locations.
- Learn Variable Speed Drive programming.
- Ability to observe and detect equipment problems and report the same to supervisory personnel.
- Ability to interact in a positive manner with co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
- Make mathematical calculations.
- Write in a legible manner in the preparation of log entries and reports.
- Ability to operate motor vehicles, hand tools, and various power tools used in the maintenance of machinery and grounds.
- Work long and unusual hours, including overtime and weekends when required.
- Work in inclement weather for long periods of time.
- Capable of understanding and complying with oral and written instructions.
- Must be able to obtain and retain Oklahoma State Certification (Class “D” water license, minimum, as well as Class C water lab license) within one year of employment.
- Possess and maintain an Oklahoma driver’s license and a driver’s record that is acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.
- HS graduate or GED equivalent
- Some computer skills
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Vocational-Technical course(s) in mechanical equipment maintenance or related discipline.
SUPERVISION GIVEN AND RECEIVED
The incumbent receives general supervision from an assigned supervisor and may supervise a lesser qualified employee, part-time or seasonal employee.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is generally performed outside, in all types of weather conditions.
- Incumbent is often exposed to hazardous equipment and conditions.
- The incumbent is often required to serve “on call” duty and respond to call-outs for unforeseen events within the City affecting water supply and delivery, and is required to work long or unusual hours and overtime when needed.
- Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
- Work involves heavy lifting and the operation of equipment.
- Some work may be required in confined spaces on varying surfaces that may be hazardous.
- The incumbent is subject to dust, dirt, offensive odors, water, vibrations, loud noises, etc.
- Operators may be exposed to injury from moving equipment, insect bites, poisonous plants, flying objects, and hazardous materials.
